Back in Belgium

Just got back from India, a one month trip to the North of India.

Starting the trip from Delhi to Varanasi, Khajuraho, Agra, Ranthambore park, Jaipur, Pushkar, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Mandawa and Delhi again.

Indians frequently asked me how I like India.First of all,  it is an absurd question as India is huge and diverse. Then, no country is good or bad. There are things which I like and others which I dislike.  I had an incredible time in India and met wonderful people. It was an amazing learning experience including both positive and negative situations.

Photos will be online soon!

Open wounds – Mortsel

“Public works are annoying and people will always complain about them. However they are just uncomfortable. Public works are not life threatening problems like a bombing during World War II.

This project shows the public works in Mortsel (2010-2011) as if they were war scenes in combination with archive images of the bombing in Mortsel (1943). The title “Open Wounds” suggests that even tough Mortsel is constantly renovating, the bombing should never be forgotten.”

When doing research for the project, I contacted historicus Pieter Serrien. He made a book about the bombing of Mortsel that helped me better understanding what happened in Mortsel on 5 April 1943.  His contribution was a great help for my project. With the assistance of Pieter and many others, I could realize my interpretation of the public works in Mortsel. If you are interested in the history of the bombing in Mortsel, you can find more information and inititiatives on Pieter’s blog.

I hope You will like my project.

MyCanal.be

The canal zone in Brussels has a lot of potential. It should become the new centre of Brussels, offering a lot of space to live, to sport or to work.

As part of the project MyCanal.be, architect Katrien Delespaul has developed five possible destinations for the area surrounding the canal.  Katrien started from my pictures when visualizing the project.

The original images can be found here.
